How ThriveCart Simplifies Split Testing
ThriveCart makes setting up and managing A/B tests simple, fast, and effective. You can launch a test in just a few clicks without complex analytics tools or third-party software.
Split Testing Goals:
When setting an A/B Test, you’ll want to choose a goal that you’re trying to achieve. While you’ll be able to see statistics for each of the below metrics during and after the test, the goal you set will tell the system how to determine a winning product.
- Highest Income (across entire funnel) – if your goal in A/B testing is to determine which upsell offer sells better, for example, choosing this goal would help determine this.
- Highest cart conversion – if you’re testing different checkout designs, or different pricing strategies trying to increase your checkout conversion percentage, then you’ll want to go with this goal.
- Lowest cart abandonment – Simply to see which checkout engages buyers the most and results in less customers abandoning your checkout
ThriveCart A/B Testing Set up
- Clone the product you want to optimize.
- Create a variation, for example, a new headline, button color, or pricing model. This should be a subtle change to your offer so you can pinpoint exactly which change made the product win the A/B test.
- Head to Products > A/B Tests where you can create your A/B test
- Select the two products to compare
- Set your goals. This is how the system will determine which product will be the winning product once the test completes.
- Set the A/B test end date – this is when the test will conclude and ThriveCart will automatically determine a winning product based on the goals you set.
- You can set the test URL, and when sharing this A/B test URL, ThriveCart will automatically split your traffic between the two product versions.
- Watch real-time performance metrics to identify your winner. See the Cart impressions, abandonment percentage, conversion percentage, and total funnel income for each product in your test.
Once the test ends (based on the end date you set), ThriveCart will automatically direct customers to the winning product from the test and you can then use that specific product’s URL in future promotions.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
- Q: Can I run an A/B test while still allowing affiliate promotion??
- A: In order to ensure that your affiliate has the links for your product (as they will not be given an A/B test link in their affiliate dashboard), we would recommend setting a redirect to a landing page in your products affiliate settings (guide here). From that external landing page, you can then use the A/B test URL to direct customers to the A/B test checkout URL. Make sure that affiliates are approved to promote both products!
- Q: Can I use A/B testing with coupon codes?
- A: Yes! You’ll just want to add the coupon code to the end of your split test URL (for example /?coupon=DISCOUNT20 where “DISCOUNT20” is your coupon code) Within the coupons settings, you’ll need to ensure that the coupon is applicable to both of the products in your A/B test. See more on auto-applying coupons with URLs here.
- Q: Do I need any coding or third-party tools to use it?
- A: No coding required. ThriveCart’s A/B testing is built-in and fully automated, so you can set it up in just a few clicks.
- Q: How does ThriveCart track results?
- A: ThriveCart tracks impressions, conversions, and revenue in real-time so you can easily see which version performs better
- Q: Can I use ThriveCart to A/B test my external landing pages? Or where I have embedded checkouts?
- A: No, ThriveCart’s A/B tests are currently only on hosted checkout products as we cannot optimize third party pages.
