Managing subscription access to courses

To set up how subscriptions are handled when your student’s billing fails, navigate to the Course Options screen:


At ‘If a subscription payment to access this course fails’ there are two options that you can select from if a users/student’s subscription payment to access one of your course fails: 

  • Pause dripping until payment is made
  • Disable all access until payment is made

Pause dripping until payment is made

This prevents new content being released until their subscription payment has been made. For example, if you have content set to drip out on a rebill payment or after a specific period of time; this will be paused until payments resume.

Disable all access until payment is made

This disables your users access completely until their subscription payment has been made. Once received, they’ll then be able to access the course content again.

You then have a toggle to enable access until a subscription ends at ‘Allow access until subscription period ends’

When toggling on the ‘Keep access until the end of the customer’s subscription period’ option, you can offer continued course access until the end of a billing period when a subscription is cancelled, rather than removing access immediately.

  • If disabled; access to this course is revoked immediately upon subscription cancellation
  • If enabled; subscriptions will retain access until the end of the billing period


Please Note:
ThriveCart Pro+ account is required to enable this feature.

Stripe Connect+ must be enabled on:

  • The account for Stripe Connect+-based subscriptions.
  • For PayPal subscriptions, as long as Connect+ is enabled on the product, the feature will work as expected.
    This feature does not work with Stripe Enhanced, Stripe Legacy or Authorize.net subscriptions

Q: Can I use this if my subscription was set up with Stripe Enhanced?
A: No, only Connect+-based subscriptions are supported.

Q: Is this feature tied to my Learn plan or my ThriveCart plan?
A: This is gated by your ThriveCart Pro+ plan.

Q: What happens if I cancel a customer’s subscription today?
A: If the toggle is enabled and you’re using Connect+, they’ll retain access until the end of their current billing period.
