Set Your Default Sales Tax Option After Enabling Sales Tax

This feature is available to Pro+ accounts with sales tax support.

For vendors using Connect+ and sales tax, ThriveCart lets you choose your preferred default tax application method — so you can decide once whether your sales tax is added to or included in your prices. Save time, avoid repetitive setup steps, and stay compliant with your preferred pricing style across all your future products.

Save time with account-wide defaults

  • Reduce setup repetition for new products
  • Maintain consistent tax handling for compliance
  • Works automatically with Connect+ sales tax-enabled products

You can set a default tax application method in your account settings. This default will automatically apply whenever you enable sales tax on a product that supports Connect+ — saving time and clicks.

How It Works

When creating or editing a product:

  1. Enable Connect+ as your processor.
  2. Enable sales tax for the product.
  3. The “Tax application” dropdown in the product’s Pricing tab will now default to your chosen option — either:
    • Add to price (tax exclusive), or
    • Include in price (tax inclusive).

This saves you from manually adjusting the setting each time.

How to Set Your Default Sales Tax Option

  1. Go to Settings → Account-wide settings → Finances → Edit Sales Tax Settings.
  2. Locate the new dropdown for Default tax application method.
  3. Choose between:
    • Include in price, or
    • Add to price
  4. Save your changes.

That’s it! From now on, your default preference will automatically apply to any new products you enable sales tax on.

Important Notes

  • This default only applies when sales tax is being turned on for the first time on a product.
  • It will not override existing products where sales tax is already enabled.
  • The option only appears when Connect+ is enabled on a product.
  • Changing the default in settings does not retroactively update older products — it only affects newly created or newly tax-enabled ones.

The default dropdown is only editable for Pro+ users with sales tax support.
